For the highest-achieving California applicants, UC has two admission programs. If a student is in one of the following groups and they are NOT admitted to any of the UC campuses they apply to, they will be offered a spot at ANOTHER campus (not the ones a student applied to) if there is space AVAILABLE.
Local Guarantee (Eligibility in the Local Context or ELC)
Student is ranked in the top 9 percent of their graduating class at a participating California high school. This rank is calculated by UC. Once an admissions application is submitted the student’s UC portal will be updated with this information.
Statewide Guarantee
Student is ranked in the top 9 percent of California students using the UC admissions index. This program is calculated on a point system.
