If you know a student interested in marine science, the environment, or nature this program would be ideal! The Bolsa Chica Conservancy launched the Youth Leadership in Environmental Action Program (YLEAP) in 2012 to engage students in middle school (13-14 years old) and high school (14-17 years old) to become active participants and stewards in the community and environment in which they live. Through a focused year-long long program of hands-on training and job shadowing sessions supported by Adult Mentors and Conservancy staff, participants will gain knowledge in wetland science, watershed biology, marine habitats, environmental conservation and community involvement, while they develop skills in leadership, critical thinking, public speaking and teamwork.
The 2019 YLEAP orientation will be held Monday-Thursday, July 29th – August 1st, from 9:00am to 4:00pm. To participate, students must complete an application form, write a one-page essay on a given prompt, and submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, school administrator, or community leader such as a church pastor, scout leader, etc. A $280 Suggested Donation applies to participate in the program. If you are interested in applying for YLEAP for the 2019-2020 year, check out the site https://bolsachica.org/leadership/yleap/ or contact Jeannette Bush at (714) 846-1114 jeannette@bolsachica.org.
